We have a first grader!

Kindergarten graduation was this afternoon and I almost missed it. I was going to meet Jerad there, and Cassia hid her shoes right before I was about to leave. I found them both in my shower. We made it though!


The kids sang a few songs, Liam didn't seem to interested in singing or doing the signs that went along with them. In stead he waved at us and then lost his balance and fell backwards flat on his butt. He's the only one that fell. 


The kids got to decorate their hats and his had the number 1-50 and a shark. They each had a speaking part about what they learned in kindergarten and his was "play fair". He drew a picture of it. 


Cassia was really good, Jerad held her the whole ceremony and she was happy to sit and watch. Afterwards she had a mint oreo and that looked fairly tasty. The other Liam's mom and I tried to get pictures of the boys but, as you will see, they turned out pretty funny. And sorry the pics are so fuzzy, my digital camera refused to read its SD card so I could only use my phone.

Trail Wind Carnival

Liam's school had its carnival last night. I took both kids and mostly chased Cassia while Liam played games. He won a cupcake, lots of candy, and two rulers. When we got home the first thing he told Jerad was "GUESS WHAT I CAN DO MEASUREMENTS NOW!!" Only Liam. The best thing was when we were walking over a lady called approached me and said she had an extra bracelet for unlimited games and gave it to Liam. 


Cassia's favorite part was the watermelon (she had two slices) and getting in the way. Liam liked knocking over ducks with a bean bag (he hit two), jumping in the bouncy house, and getting lots of yummy things at the bake sale. I had made GF coconut cookie bars, butterscotch brownies, and vanilla cupcakes with coffee frosting. When we went to the bake sale there was a gluten free section and I saw a little boy's mom buy him one of my GF cupcakes, it made me happy. There were a few more (GF pumpkin cookies) and I bought one of each (this is the first time in 9 years I've been able to eat something from a bake sale, very exciting).  Also there was a cover band that played Pink Floyd, that was pretty awesome.

Volunteering @ kindergarten

Liam's class is learning about oceans and made tilapia prints, a pygmy right whale and calf, and jellyfish. Cassia found the table in the play kitchen, sat down, and signed "more". I had to bring her cookies off Mrs Chamber's desk and then she found leftover snacks in the garbage. She also found two play pieces of bread and set the table with them. Liam thought it was funny, but is sad that school is almost out.

Liam is studying the ocean this week and wanted to wear fish shirts. We didn't have any fish shirts so we made some. He picked a whale shark and an octopus. 

Field Trip to the Botanical Gardens

I chaperoned the field trip to the Botanical Gardens. It's a public garden in Boise with native plants, flowers, and herbs. It's gorgeous, but....


It was pouring rain. The kids had to sit on a brick floor in a tent and learn about herbs while rain blew in we were all freezing. The plan was to walk around the garden, but we only had one short walk with umbrellas. As you can imagine 40 kindergarteners and Cassia were not enjoying themselves very much. Plus, my umbrella inverted from the wind and broke. And Liam forgot his coat and had to wear one from the lost and found. And I parked about a quarter mile from the bus so I had to carry Cassia in the pouring rain to the garden and back. At least they gave us a free family pass to use later. Also, this happened:

Jade: The baby is sitting in a puddle. 


So I had a wet cold baby to pack around. At least Mrs. Chambers let us borrow an umbrella, which Liam insisted on plastering sideways to his head. 


And now that I have told you about the field trip, let us never speak of it again.
